Maryland

Maryland GAA is a Gaelic football club based in Drumraney in County Westmeath, west of Moate. It was founded in 1957.

The club competes in the Westmeath Intermediate Football Championship and has won it twice, in 1980 and again in 2008.

That 2008 season brought Maryland an unexpected turn in the national spotlight: the club won the first series of the television programme Celebrity Bainisteoir, managed by the broadcaster Marty Whelan, who took over from the politician Mary O'Rourke during the run. Maryland beat the Cork club Mayfield in the final at Parnell Park in May 2008. The club colours are blue and white.
