Garrycastle

Garrycastle is a Gaelic football club in Athlone, County Westmeath. It was founded in 1981, when people involved in the game locally saw the need for a second club in the town to cope with a growing population, and it has since become one of the leading clubs in the county.

Its first Westmeath Senior Football Championship came in 2001, and the club's greatest achievement followed a decade later. In 2011 Garrycastle won the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship, settled by a late free from second half substitute Conor Cosgrove, and remains the only Westmeath club to have taken the provincial title. That run carried the club to the All Ireland club final at Croke Park on St Patrick's Day 2012, where it drew with Crossmaglen Rangers, 1-12 to 0-15, before losing the replay.

Dessie Dolan, the Westmeath forward who won an All Star in 2004, is the club's best known player. Garrycastle was county senior champion most recently in 2019, beating St Loman's by 2-13 to 3-6. The club colours are green and red.
