About the club

The Nire and Fourmilewater are two separate clubs based in Ballymacarbry in the Nire Valley, County Waterford, sharing the same pool of players and the same ground at the Mill Field. The Nire, in Irish An Uidhir, is the Gaelic football club in the area, while Fourmilewater, Caisleán Cuanach, looks after the hurling. Each keeps its own committee.

The two clubs also sit in different parish arrangements. The Nire forms a half parish with Touraneena, while Fourmilewater is a half parish with Newcastle in County Tipperary. The Nire play in yellow and blue, Fourmilewater in blue and white.

Ballymacarbry is also home to one of the most successful ladies' football clubs in the country, whose teams have won ten All Ireland club championships, making the parish one of the best known small GAA communities in Ireland.
