Seir Kieran

Seir Kieran is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of the same name in south County Offaly, with its playing facilities in the village of Clareen. The parish takes its name from Saint Ciarán of Saighir, who founded a monastic settlement here in the fifth century, and it has a population of only around 460 people.

Founded in 1887, the club is mainly concerned with hurling and camogie, though it has competed in Offaly football competitions and reached the county senior football semi final in 1927. It has spent 67 of its years in the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship, continuously since 1970, and has won the Sean Robbins Cup four times, alongside repeated success at junior, intermediate and underage level.

Few parishes of this size have contributed as much to a county's hurling. Players from Seir Kieran featured on all four Offaly teams that won the Liam MacCarthy Cup, and five clubmen have won eleven All Star awards between them: Eugene Coughlan, Johnny Dooley, Kevin Kinahan, Billy Dooley and Joe Dooley. Three Seir Kieran players have captained the Offaly senior hurlers.
